IDEA FACTORY - Commercializing UCLA Inventions
UCLA was the first University of California campus to establish a local technology transfer program. Interest in the program grew quickly, but eventually outpaced the staffing and resources allocated for managing technology transfer. As a result, UCLA found itself lagging behind other top universities in transferring technologies from the lab to the marketplace. Chancellor Albert Carnesale recognized the need to fix technology transfer at UCLA, and directed the reorganization of the Office of Intellectual Property Administration (OIPA) under the leadership of Executive Director Andrew Neighbour. In 2002, the UCLA office charged with protecting and commercializing UCLA patents and inventions began a major reorganization. Read about how the new OIPA helps bring the next big thing to market...

Quoted: Chancellor Albert Carnesale; Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Andrew Neighbour; Dr. Farhad Parhami, Associate Professor, Dept. of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA
