University-Industry Collaborations Semiconductors | Biotechnology | Advanced Technology Program The University of California (UC) funds several grant-matching programs to encourage research collaborations with industry. Two such programs are: The Semiconductor Manufacturing Alliance for Research and Training Program addresses the fast-paced research needs of the manufacturing of semiconductors and other electronic materials as a result of the rapid pace of computer chip evolution which requires redesign of manufacturing technology every few years. The focus is on next generation electronic manufacturing materials, equipment and processing, not limited to semiconductors. Research areas related to electronics manufacturing include basic sciences and a range of engineering disciplines. The Private Sponsor may generally be any California-based company or business entity engaged in producing products or services relevant to the electronics manufacturing industry. Applicants are encouraged to consult with the UC-SMART Program office during the proposal development phase if questions arise about possible overlap between the UC-MICRO program and the UC-SMART program. Notice of Intent to Submit Due Date: May 03, 2001 Proposal Submission Due Date: May 15, 2001 Program Office: (510) 642-1896 Program Website: http://uc-smart.berkeley.edu/
The Biotechnology STAR Project strives to enhance the development and transfer of research discoveries to continue to support the creation and maturation of entrepreneurial biotechnology companies in California. Priority is given to requests for seed funding for new, innovative research projects related to biotechnology (including basic sciences and biochemical engineering). Proposals for clinical trials or for medical engineering (e.g., prosthetics, etc.) generally are not appropriate. The Private Sponsor may generally be any California-based company or business entity engaged in the commercialization of biotechnology-related or biotechnology-enabling products or services. for Licensing from UCLA New inventions/patents resulting from several years of research at UCLA are now available for licensing. We spotlight several technologies below:
