Funding Opportunities and Custom News Services Available Electronically

Several services are available to researchers who wish to automatically receive notices of funding opportunities and other news items. Following is a listing of sources that utilize electronic methods to provide researchers with up-to-date information in specific areas of interest.

Aeronautical Systems Center Preaward Information Exchange System - ASC

The Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) Preaward Information Exchange System at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio maintains an e-mail notification service which provides updates regarding specific business opportunities in which users have expressed an interest. Once a user has registered his/her interest, the user will automatically receive an e-mail notification each time the business opportunity is updated. The service is located at http://www.pixs.wpafb.af.mil/pixs/MailList.asp.

AAMC STAT

AAMC STAT is the Association of American Medical Colleges' weekly electronic newsletter, e-mailed free to subscribers over the Internet. It offers brief and immediate news summaries of the latest AAMC activities, initiatives, policy statements, publications, data releases, etc.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Reports via E-Mail

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) allows users to subscribe to several mailing lists via the CDC World Wide Web site. To subscribe to CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Vaccine R&D, or National Health Interview Survey researchers, go to the CDC web site at http://www.cdc.gov/subscribe.html and fill out the on-line form.

U.S. Department of Education News Bulletin E-Mail Service

The Department of Education's EDInfo is an information service that delivers two or three e-mail messages a week, featuring Education Department reports, initiatives, or updates, such as budget changes, grant awards announcements, Goals 2000 publications, legislation affecting the Department of Education, and research and statistics. To subscribe, send a message to listproc@inet.ed.gov. In the body of the message, type: subscribe EDINFO. Or subscribe on-line through the Department of Education web site.

U.S. Department of Energy "Energy Science News" Reminder

Energy Science News, a bi-monthly newsletter, covers information about research and technologies generated by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Science. An automatic electronic "reminder" and topic list will be e-mailed to subscribers when each new issue of the Energy Science News becomes available online. To subscribe to the reminder, go to the Energy Science News web site at http://www.pnl.gov/energyscience/remind.htm.

U.S. Department of Justice Biweekly Newsletter by E-Mail

JUST INFO, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS), is a biweekly e-mail newsletter that reports on a wide variety of criminal justice topics, including news from the agencies within DOJ's Office of Justice Programs; criminal justice resources on the internet; federal legislation updates; criminal justice funding and program information; and new NCJRS products, publications and services. GrantsNet

Developed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), GrantsNet is a web site offering "one-stop shopping" on grants and other forms of support for research and training in the biomedical sciences. The site currently focuses on graduate and postgraduate training and junior faculty positions, but expansion is planned to encompass undergraduate and precollege science training. The searchable database of biomedical funding options and e-mail update notification service can be found at http://www.grantsnet.org.

IRIS E-Mail Alert Service

The Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) Alert Service is available free to members of the UCLA research community. The IRIS Alert Service allows users to create individual search profiles, which are run against the IRIS database of funding opportunities at intervals specified by the user. Search results are delivered to the user by e-mail or posted to a world wide web site. For those selecting the WWW notice delivery method, notices will be posted to a web page that may be viewed at the user's convenience. This delivery method allows users to click on links in notices and go directly to the referenced material. (Note: Unless your e-mail program displays live HTML links, the links will not connect to the full IRIS records in the result set. To change your delivery method, simply log into the alert service profile and click on the radio button for WWW delivery near the bottom of the "Basic Information" screen. Then click the "Update" button). You will be notified of newly posted information by e-mail. Access is available through the UCLA Office of Contract and Grant Administration Funding Info web page and on the IRIS home page located at http://carousel.lis.uiuc.edu/~iris/alert/.

NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS)

A free subscription to receive procurement announcements from NASA procurement offices is also available over the Internet. Link to NASA's web site address to register. The following announcements will be sent to the designated e-mail address immediately upon publication:

  • Presolicitation and post-award notices and their amendments
  • Notices of solicitation and solicitation amendment releases
  • General procurement announcements

Three options are available:

  • Register to receive all notices regarding selected product service classifications.
  • Register to receive all notices from selected NASA centers.
  • Register to receive all procurement notices.

Information will be sent from these NASA Centers: Ames Research Center, Dryden Flight Research Center, Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA Headquarters Acquisition Division, Johnson Space Center, Kennedy Space Center, Langley Research Center, Lewis Research Center, Marshall Space Flight Center, and Stennis Space Center. Users of this service may unsubscribe at any time. Users should remember that, despite the convenience of e-mail notification, they should also occasionally search Business Opportunities at the NASA Web site.

NCERQA currently maintains 17 separate e-mail lists that allow the user to automatically receive announcements of grant and funding opportunities or bi-weekly summaries of new documents added to the NCERQA web site for specific research topics. National Institute for Standards and Technology Bimonthly Reports by E-Mail

NIST Update is a bimonthly report that highlights research, activities and services at the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). To receive NIST Update by email, send an email message to listproc@nist.gov. In the body of the message type the command: subscribe nist_update Your Name. National Institutes of Health Guide Table of Contents via E-Mail

To keep up-to-date on announcements and notices from the NIH, you may subscribe to the NIH Guide Table of Contents electronic mailing list. This service allows you to receive the weekly table of contents for the NIH Guide on your desktop via e-mail. You can then access and/or download the full text(s) of any announcements of interest directly from the NIH Guide on their website at http://www.nih.gov/grants/oer.htm

To subscribe to the electronic Table of Contents for the NIH Guide, send an e-mail message to LISTSERV@LIST.NIH.GOV in the following format, leaving the subject line blank:

NSF Customer News Service

The National Science Foundation (NSF) operates Custom News Services, an e-mail and web-based alert service designed to help those with an interest in NSF news and publications to quickly learn about new publications and information. The service not only alerts users to new NSF publications, it also provides links to electronic copies. Every document included in the Custom News Service alerts is available in one or more electronic formats, which can be downloaded or printed. This free custom service allows the user to establish a profile of the types of publications desired. NSF will create a personal, customized news page that may be accessed via a login, which is the user's internet e-mail address. Recipients may log in to view alerts, or may choose to receive them via e-mail. However, custom news pages must be visited at least once every six months to keep the subscription current. (NSF will send reminders via e-mail before subscriptions expire).

The Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP)

The Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) is the Department of Defense in full partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with participation by numerous other federal and non-federal organizations. Within its broad areas of interest, the Program focuses on Cleanup, Compliance, Conservation, and Pollution Prevention technologies. To be added to the SERDP mailing list, enter your name and address on the form at http://www.serdp.org/subscribe/form_subscribe.cfm. You will receive the quarterly SERDP newsletter and information about upcoming events, such as the SERDP Symposium. If you are already on SERDP's mailing list, this form may be used to update the SERDP database.

Transportation Research Board E-Mail Notification Service

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) offers a free e-mail notification service to advise users when Project Statements (Requests for Proposals) have been published on the TRB home page. To register, complete the on-line form on the TRB home page. Users may specify whether they want to receive notification for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP), or both. Once registered, users will receive e-mail notification of all RFPs that have been released. The full text of the RFPs will be posted on the Cooperative Research Program Homepage.
