Re: Updated Conflict of Interest in Research Procedures

Procedures 925.2 "Disclosing Financial Interests in Non-Governmental Sponsors of Contracts and Grants for Research" and 925.3 "Disclosing Financial Interests Related to Government Sponsored Contracts and Grants for Research" have been updated. Changes in these procedures were prompted by feedback from the research community and discussions with members of the Human Research Policy Board and the Independent Substantive Review Committee.

Key changes include:

• A change in the threshold for reporting by Key Personnel that is consistent with federal rather than State of California requirements.
  
  
• Indication that when the research involves human subjects, the definition of Key Personnel should include all individuals who will be named in informed consent forms for the sponsored project.
  
  
• Revision of the disclosure process to reduce the number of forms used. The KP form has been deleted. The locally designed Form 740 has been revised. There is now a single supplement form to be used with both the State approved Form 700U and the Form 740.

These revised procedures became effective August 30,2004. Use of the revised forms is effective immediately. Policy 925, Procedures 925.1, 925.2 and 925.3, and the disclosure forms are available at http://www.research.ucla.edu/ocga/sr2/coi.htm.
