A virtual reality model of Ancient Rome. In this project we propose to create a virtual reality model of the
ancient city of Rome from the Iron Age (VIIIth centry B.C.) to late antiquity (Vth century A.D.). We will model
buildings within the Aurelian Walls and the surrounding countryside to a distance of 1 kilometer outside the walls.
When scholars disagree on how a building or site should be reconstructed, we will show the alternatives. Items in the model will be connected via URLs to Web sites that we will either create or to which we will link. Through a variety of grants and partnerships, we will create different user interfaces to the model involving virtual actors and avatars. The model will be used as a teaching resource on the K-12 and university levels.
